Aug 22 to Sep 30 The Festival of Banners was introduced by the Nanaimo Art Gallery in 1987. Dubbed a "Gallery in the Streets" local artists create banners that reflect the years theme and these banners are displayed in the streets from the early spring until early September, at which time they are auctioned off. Artists of all ages get into the fun and awards are given out.

Oct 18 to Oct 19 The Shady Mile Farm Market on Jinglepot Road is hosting the Giant Pumpkin Weigh Off and Pumpkin Festival featuring a large cash prize to be won. Featuring pumpkin carving, hayrides, face painting, petting farm, refreshments, hay play area and more. Come have a Gourd weekend.

TBA This annual Victoria Day weekend event features the crowning of a May Queen, Maypole dancing by local children, a midway in the Civic Arena and an Empire Days Parade through the downtown area. The grand finale is a fireworks display over the Nanaimo waterfront.

TBA Nanaimo's first Dragon Boat Festival was held in 2003, drawing big crowds from all over. The festival runs for three days in July and takes place in the beautiful Nanaimo Harbour at Maffeo Sutton Park and Pioneer Plaza.
