Jul 27 The first bathtub race took place at the Nanaimo Harbour in 1967. Over 200 entries were submitted in the first event and 47 completed the 58 km (36 mi) race, which ended in Vancouver's Fisherman's Cove across the straits of Georgia. Today the annual event leaves from Departure Bay in Nanaimo harbour, circles Entrance Island, proceeds up to and around Winchelsea Island and then finishes back where it started in Departure Bay in Nanaimo. This event is one of main attractions at the Nanaimo Marine Festival.
